Visceral
Therapy

Gentle care, centred on you
Abdominal tightness or discomfort can leave you feeling less at ease in your body. Understanding your symptoms and how they affect everyday life is the starting point for your care.
I offer visceral therapy at my home practice in Trumpington, Cambridge, as part of an individual approach to physiotherapy. This gentle, hands-on treatment focuses on the abdomen and the connective tissues surrounding your internal organs.

What is visceral therapy?
“Visceral” refers to your internal organs, such as your stomach and intestines. Visceral therapy uses gentle manual techniques to work with the tissues surrounding these organs.
The aim is to address tissue tension and encourage more comfortable movement. I consider this alongside your breathing, posture, movement and wider symptoms, rather than looking at your abdomen in isolation.
Where appropriate, visceral therapy can form part of a broader treatment plan, together with exercises, movement advice and other physiotherapy techniques.
Is visceral therapy right for me?
An assessment can help us explore whether this approach is suitable for you. You may wish to discuss:
-
A feeling of tightness, pulling or restriction around your abdomen.
-
Ongoing discomfort around a healed abdominal or Caesarean scar.
-
Changes in abdominal comfort or movement after pregnancy.
-
Abdominal symptoms alongside back or pelvic discomfort.
These symptoms can have different causes, and hands-on treatment will not be appropriate for everyone. I will listen to your concerns, review your medical history and explain the options available. If your symptoms need further medical investigation, I will advise you accordingly.
My training and ongoing development
I am fully trained in visceral therapy, having completed The Abdominal Visceral Mobilisation Course with The Mummy MOT in February 2024.
In September 2026, I also completed The Mummy MOT Visceral Refresher Course, led by tutor and senior physiotherapist Alex and CEO Maria Elliott.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertake further study and practical training to expand my clinical skills. In 2027, I plan to build on this experience with Visceral Manipulation Level 1 training at the Barral Institute.
